Station History
The proposal for a Community Radio Station for the Caboolture Shire was first mooted in 1985 by Alex Long and Andrew Swanton who were at a barbeque together. An Expression of Interest for a Community Radio Licence was lodged with the Federal Department of Communication.
A public meeting was held and a group representing
community interests was formed to begin planning the Station.
This group was called Caboolture Community FM Radio Association.
On 12 November 1987 the Association became an incorporated association. The Community Services Building constructed by the Caboolture Shire Council was offered to the Station for its Studios and a fund-raising campaign was subsequently launched to begin fitting out the Studios and an Outside Broadcast Van.
On 4 August 1989 the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal (now the Australian Broadcasting Authority) held a public hearing in Caboolture to consider the application by Caboolture Community FM Radio Association Incorporated for a Licence to broadcast full-time in the Caboolture Shire.
On 1
September 1989 the Tribunal handed down its decision approving
the Licence. In assessing the application, the Tribunal took into
account the following: The quality of programming, the expertise
of Station personnel and the long-term economic viability of the
Station.
Councillor Stan Muldoon who was then the Mayor of Caboolture Shire Council officially opened 4OUR at midnight on 17 June 1990 at a party commemorating the official commencement of permanent broadcasting. Representatives from the Caboolture Shire Council and Community Organizations in the area attended the opening as did representatives from several Community Radio Stations in and around Brisbane. The frequency allocated to 4OUR was 91.5FM.
On 17 June 1996 4OUR changed frequency from 91.5FM to 101.5FM.
